Hi everybody,
I cannot get vasFMC 2.0a9 connected to X-Plane 8.64 in an MS-Vista enviroment. Have tried out a lot to get it working already...
Can anybody confirm that these to versions are in princible able to communicate?
Thanks a lot for your response,
Kallistos

Hello Kallistos,
vasFMC has not been tested with V8.
While the initial releases _would_ have worked with v8 the latest requires 9.3 onwards.
What are your reasons sticking with v8?
Best regards,

Griaß Di Jörg,
Thanks a lot for coming back on this - I somewhere read a statement made by Phillipp that vasFMC 2.x should be compatible with X-Plane versions earlier than 9. After seeing that I actually made the download...
I had not problems at all getting vasFMC version 1.1 work with my X-Plane 8.64. So the reason for the failure with 2.x must lie somewhere in the code that has been added since version 1.1.
In my MS-Vista-enviroment both programs do not reside the standard directory C:\Programme but in C:\Users\MY_DIRECTORY\programme. Does vasFMC requires to be installed in C:\Programme?
The x-Plane plugin is installed in ...\X-Plane\Resources\plugins\xpfmcconn\ (lin.xpl, win.xpl and mac.xpl all lie therein). This should be ok. Also, I did already tick 'X-Plane' as Flightsim.
Having done the installation and with X-Plane running vasFMC 2 quite obvisually was unable to see the loaded X-Plane process - as it did not produce the required configuration files within the X-Plane plugin-directory. How does vasFMC know where x-Plane has been installed? However, version 1 set this file up correctly.
With the following actions I tried to get vasFMC running:
1- Start one or both programs as Vista administrator
2- Amended the file fsaccess_xplane.cfg: Replaced the hostadress with my computers IP (hostaddress=192.168.2.101)
3- Have opened the UDP ports 50707 and 63703 with the Vodafone firewall
4- Added 'port_from_sim=50707' and 'port_to_sim=63703') to fsaccess_xplane.cfg
5- After having seen that vasFMC version 1 would work ok I removed version 2 and re-installed it.
After that I started this thread - because I still hope that this great software is going to run with my old X-Plane (for a newer version I would need new hardware).
Thanks again for support to Jörg and anybody!
Best regards from Munich,
Kallistos

Kallistos,
we stated several times that we dol not support Vista. No wonder you HW is weak! The reports on W7 are positive, so convert as fast as you can.
Principally the initial release of xpfmcconn _should_ (have) work(ed) with X-Plane 8.
As we do not have it, we did not test on it.
The next vasFMC release will require X-Plane 9.4 or later, we concentrate on that.
The V9 demo is free, d/l and see how it performs.
Also use V9.4 demo to set up vasFMC.
After it works revert to V8 and see what happens.
Having said all that I am absolutely sure the vasFMC/X-Plane combo works on a standard Windos box with a _single_ network interface. We tested that MANY times.
Please show me the passage in the installation guide, where we instruct you to tinker with your IP addresses.

PS: Why did you post this in the vasChart section?
Online
Sorry, the X-Plane plugin uses the fat plugin architecture that was introduced with X-Plane 9.
Additionally, the plugin released in Summer 2009 relies on features available only in 9.3 and later.
For the plugin released in April, it might be possible to emulate the "fat" behaviour by creating a few symlinks and fooling the plugin loader, but I didn't try this and won't, because X-P 9 is a stabile platform that runs smooth even on older computers if you don't go for all the latest overkill in graphics settings. So we see no reason why we should bother with 8.6.
vasFMC does not require administrator rights on windows.
vasFMC can be installed anywhere (even in "Eigene Dateien") and doesn't rely on C:\User or C:\Programs
And: If you test with 9.4 demo, thrash the edited .cfg files! Both inside the plugin and inside vasFMC. In 99% of the users' setups, the auto-generated settings work out of the box and trouble starts as soon as the user starts editing the files.

Dear Philipp,
Thanks a lot for making clear that the X-Plane plugin made available for vasFMC 2.0a9 basically requires X-Plane 9. This was the confirmation I was asking for.
VasFMC is great work!!
Have a nice day,
Kallistos

Joerg,
Here are some reasons that might hold as an excuse for my unsophisticated experiments getting vasFMC+X-Plane running. Hope they are accepted as adequate:
1- If vasFMC does not support Windows Vista we might want to amend this statement on key features of vasFMC given on the homepage of the project:
'- Standalone Version for XPlane Win32/Mac/Linux' (http://vas-project.org/)
and add any exception applicable.
2- Also, here is the statement Philipp made elsewhere which made me a bit confused about the compatibility of the X-Plane plugin:
'Das Plugin wurde entwickelt für X-Plane 9, ist aber abwärtskompatibel gehalten und sollte bis auf die Autopilotfunktionen auch unter 8.6 laufen.'
(http://forum.flightxpress.net/index.php … adID=12423)
This statement is pretty old, though (August 2008), but still accessible in the internet for anybody trying around with the software.
3- A hint that altering the configuration files might help within a network setup can be found in the Installation part of the Overview for vasFMC 2.x:
'To do this, locate the file "fsaccess_xplane.cfg" in the cfg folder of your vasFMC installation. Edit the line hostaddress=239.40.41.42
To read
hostadress=The IP address of the computer running X-Plane
In X-Plane, locate the file "xpfmcconn.cfg" in YOUR_X-PLANE_DIR/Resources/plugins/xpfmcconn and change the line
hostaddress=239.40.41.42
To read
hostadress=The IP address of the computer running vasFMC'
My definitely naive approach was to enter the localhost's IP here.
4- Posting this in the vasChart section was of course a blunder. Sorry for this.
Best regards,
Kallistos

vasFMC _should_ run on Vista. It runs on XP and 7, so I see no reason why I shouldn't run on Vista. BUT, no one in the team has a computer with Vista, so if specific questions arise we cannot answer them, because we cannot reproduce the runtime environment.
Hence the statement "We don't support Vista", "we" meaning the developers and not the software.
2- Also, here is the statement Philipp made elsewhere which made me a bit confused about the compatibility of the X-Plane plugin:

This was a statement in the early development state. It is not true for the current plugin. Unfortunately, I cannot edit the posting in the fxp forum.

In X-Plane, locate the file "xpfmcconn.cfg" in YOUR_X-PLANE_DIR/Resources/plugins/xpfmcconn and change the line
hostaddress=239.40.41.42
To read
hostadress=The IP address of the computer running vasFMC'
Note that this is marked in the manual as: "If network connection does not work:"
For X-P9 it should work in 99% without you needing to edit the files.
